Parkinson's Disease is constantly trying to steal the dignity of patients, who fight the constant battle trying not to let it. One of the best defences, is sport. The charity Sport Parkinson's is at the forefront of providing access to sport for all those affected by Parkinson's, and in July this year, organised the "Try-Athlon" where over 400 people affected by Parkinson's had the opportunity to sample many sport related therapies and activities - you can see a short documentary on the event here> Try-Athlon
I'm absolutely honoured to be representing England in the inaugural Four Nations Golf Tournament at The Belfry October 11th to 13th. My golf has been truly savaged by Parkinson's, and I can no longer putt right-handed, however, I discovered by chance that I can at least make a putting stroke left-handed, so game on - my scores may be much higher, but as research suggests that golf is better for preserving and improving balance among PD sufferers, I'll be playing for as long as my body allows.
Many people diagnosed with Parkinson's find that their work is compromised, and even worse, many lose their jobs or find they can no longer function well enough to continue working - for these people, access to sport is difficult due to cost, let alone compromised and restricted mobility, and this is where Sport Parkinson's can provide opportunities that would otherwise not be available to them. I will be raising as much money as I can for them during my preparation for, and involvement in, the Four Nations Tournament.

They say "nothing motivates like a diagnosis" - my challenge to myself is to raise £1,000,000 or more before I die, and as I'm not dead yet, well, game on!
